One word… Beautiful. If you don’t mind 20-25 minute drive passed Government Camp this is the perfect hike/walk for the whole family.
Directions that we found online to this trail were all wrong. After you turn right from Hwy 26 into forest road No. 42 you will be turning right into road 58 (there is a sign). From there you will turn left into the little crater lake campground. Trailhead starts out from the parking lot next to the campground. We did not expect the trail to be paved, so that was a surprise in the middle of national forest. The lake is over 42 feet deep, crazy. Especially that I’m not sure if it is even 42 feet wide 🙂 It is beautiful though. We threw some rocks watching them go down. This is super short trail, 0.15 mile, but you can continue another 0.15 mile to join with the pacific crest trail and another 0.5 mile to Timothy Lake.
